Some history of the Dees

The seeds of the Melbourne Football Club were sown in 1858 with matches and early meetings involving influential cricketer Tom Wills, Scotch College headmaster Thomas H. Smith and Melbourne Cricket Club member and publican Jerry Bryant, a personal friend of Wills. Wills was instrumental in the push to establish senior football teams and in the same year wrote a letter pushing for a football club with a "code of laws" to be established. Melbourne's early team had a strong link to the Melbourne Cricket Club through its players playing both football and also for the cricket club and playing under the name of Melbourne, with Wills as its inaugural captain. The first mention of a game played is between Melbourne and South Yarra in September 1858.The team was formally acknowledged and established as a separate sporting entity by the Melbourne Cricket Club on 14 May 1859.

Melbournes Future

In the first game for Melbourne in 2010 it was Melbourne Vs Hawthorn and we got smashed but after that game we started gradually improving, we were starting to even up with other top 8 teams we beat Sydney by 73 and loosing by the slimmest margens to Collingwood and Western Bulldogs but we drew with Collingwood so the future is looking great for Melbourne!

Season Overview

Welcome everyone to this blog on the Great Melbourne Demons.

Unfortunantly it's the last game for the Dees this season against the Kangaroos who were getting close to the finals but they just missed out like us. After the loss to Port Adelaide we are just playing for higher spot on the ladder now. But hopefully next year the Dees should make the finals and the other teams should watch out!

The Demons gave Brad Miller a chance to play in the 1st team for Melbourne for his last game because he might move to another club (favourites Gold Coast). However, instead Miller will instead run out for Casey's VFL final against North Ballarat. "Inside the football club he has always been a team-first, club-first player. He's got great love for the club and works as hard as anyone else in the club. His leader ship has been very big aswell. His involvement at Casey has been very big for the whole year". "I take my hat off to him for being such a team/club player for his time at Melbourne" don't forget there still is the slimmest chance for him to stay with Melbourne Demons.

I will try to update this as much as I can thankyou.
